Sowing & cultivation

Amaranthus caudatus is easy and rewarding to sow:

  • Pre-sowing: 4–6 weeks before the last spring frost, Light germinator - do not cover seed.

  • Transplanting: after risk of frost

Care in the garden

  • Location: full sun

  • Plant spacing: ± 30–40 cm

  • Height: approx. 120–150 cm

  • Flowering time: approx. 65–80 days after sowing

Give enough space and sun, then the flower spikes will grow long and full.

In the cutting garden & vase

  • Harvest when the flower clusters are fully developed

  • For dried flowers: harvest just before full maturity

  • Dry upside down in a well-ventilated, dry place

Combines beautifully with dahlias, grasses, and other structural flowers.
