Phlox Drummondii ‘Sugar Stars’

What a special phlox! ‘Sugar Stars’ produces small, star-shaped flowers in soft lavender to purplish-blue hues, with a striking light centre. The delicate colouring gives it an almost painted appearance.

Phlox is a wonderful flower for the cutting garden: prolific, romantic and especially beautiful as a cut flower. The branched stems carry multiple flowers and are perfect for giving bouquets that loose, natural look.

The more you pick, the longer the plants will continue to produce new flowers.

Sowing & growing

Pre-sowing: February–April. Lightly cover the seeds with seed-starting compost or vermiculite. Phlox germinates best in the dark. I place the bottom tray of a seed tray upside down over them to exclude light until they germinate.

Tip: pick regularly and remove spent flowers. This encourages the plant to keep producing new flower stems.
