Eryngium Planum 'Blue glitter' - Sea Holly
Eryngium Planum 'Blue glitter' - Sea Holly
Looking for a flower that is both robust and elegant?
‘Blue Glitter’ is a refined variety of Eryngium planum known for its metallic blue flowers. A favorite in the cutting garden!
And that’s not all: this plant attracts plenty of bees and pollinators, loves sun, and is perfect for bouquets, fresh or dried.
For best results, sow this Eryngium in autumn, but spring sowing also works. This plant prefers full sun for better blooming and soil that isn’t too wet. It’s a perennial. The foliage dies back in winter but the plant regrows in spring. So you only need to sow it once ;-)
Why I’m a fan of this glitter queen:
✨ Blue flowers with a metallic edge – elegant, striking, and unique
🌿 Blooms in the first year – instant gratification for the impatient
✂️ A star in the vase and for drying – sturdy and the color stays beautiful when dried.
🐝 Pollinator magnet – bees and butterflies love it
🌞 True sun lover – the sunnier, the better
Sowing and care tips
-
Sowing time: Sow indoors in autumn or spring
-
Germination time: 2–4 weeks at average room temperature
-
Sowing depth: Lightly press, do not cover – these seeds love light
-
Location: Full sun, well-drained soil
Chrisje’s Tip:
Place them at the front of your border or mix them with airy flowers like orlaya or nigella for a wild yet stylish touch.
And... feel free to pick a few stems for a dried bouquet that lasts for years!
